THE MET: DUBFIRE / LIVE xR PERFORMANCE FROM THE MET CLOISTERS

The VVOX team was invited by Dubfire and the event team at The Met Cloisters to participate in a live recording of Dubfire's electronic music set within the architecturally stunning museum in NYC. As part of the Sonic Cloisters initiative, we joined forces with Dubfire yet again to create a one-of-a-kind xR visual experience, this time using state-of-the-art xR technology to mix reality and 'virtuality' in a 1-hour cohesive live stream.

xR CONTENT

With a little amount of time ( approx. 3-weeks ) we created a 5-chapter narrative for the one hour performance. Blending between the real and virtual, we seamlessly weave futuristic, Blade Runner inspired architecture, virtual lasers, mocap characters interacting with the Chapter House, and absolutely epic virtual zooms.

xR OUTSIDE OF THE VOLUME

Our team designed the show graphics almost entirely in Unreal Engine and Disguise. Our big ‘magic trick’ for the show was to use a photogrammetry scan of the Chapter House as a replica within Unreal Engine.

During the show we mixed the real and virtual ( photogrammetry ) worlds seamlessly using set extensions and AR to bring out detail of the art as well as augment it with stunning visual concepts.

THE CHAPTER HOUSE

Another challenge to achieving the visual concept was moving our xR rig onto the museums floor. For this experience we used stYpe to track the camera position with our Blackmagic setup on a dolly.

We collaborated closely with the team at Bespoke Studios to orchestrate an ideal movement and positioning of the dolly throughout the performance.
